Assisted dying: beyond ethics
Trinity College Dublin Visiting Professor lecture series.
Assisted dying (euthanasia, physician assisted suicide) is a highly controversial subject. In 2024 The Joint Commission on Assisted Dying recommended “that the Government introduces legislation allowing for assisted dying, in certain restricted circumstances”. However, it remains unclear as to whether such legislation will be introduced in to Ireland.
This seminar will not address the legal/ethical aspects of assisted dying, but will focus on the experiences of countries that have introduced relevant legislation (and particularly European countries, i.e. Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg). The purpose of the seminar is not to change people’s opinions about assisted dying, but to provide them with facts to inform the ongoing debate.
The lecture will take place in the Thomas Davis Theatre Room 2043.
This is an over 18 event.
