Bajazet ... In Focus
Event Information
About this event
Did you know...the famous baroque composer Vivaldi suffered from asthma which often left him experiencing breathlessness? Perhaps this influenced his love of rapid, high-wire vocal acrobatics which is demanded of each character when performing his opera, Bajazet.
Join us for Bajazet... In Focus, an introduction to the powerful Vivaldi opera Bajazet, delivered by Eric Haywood, Associate Professor of Italian Studies (emeritus) at University College Dublin. Eric will take a deeper look at the opera, exploring the context in which it was created.
The talk will also include a discussion between INO’s artistic director Fergus Sheil, Bajazet director Adele Thomas, conductor Peter Whelan and bass-baritone Gianluca Margheri who is performing the title role. The team will chat about the creation of INO’s production of Bajazet which is the Irish premiere of this Vivaldi opera.
This event is designed to give a deeper understanding of Vivaldi’s Bajazet and will enhance the experience of the live performances which are happening nationwide from 16-30 January before heading to London for a sold out run at Royal Opera’s Linbury theatre in Covent Garden from 4-12 February. It is also equally of interest to those who would like to learn more about Vivaldi and Italian opera. It is suitable for opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
The event will last for approximately 1 hour and will be available to access online.
Access details will be provided on the day of the event via email.
