About this event
Join us for a barn-storming, toe-tapping ‘Wild West’ themed Ballycotton RNLI fundraiser at the Blackbird, Ballycotton, on Friday 3rd February, 7.30pm until late. Featuring a live Country & Western band, hog roast, DJ, and raffle, the event will raise vital funds to support the brave local volunteer RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) crew and station in the East Cork fishing village of Ballycotton.
“Yee-haw, boots on and saddle up…!” Tickets to the ‘Wild West’-themed event include a Hog Roast or vegetarian option, complimentary cocktail or beer on arrival, live music from the spectacular Country & Western Ryan Phoenix Band, DJ, and raffle with amazing prizes and more!
Tickets cost just €35 with 100% of donations and over 80% of the ticket price going directly to the Ballycotton RNLI.
The RNLI is a charity supported solely by donations and fundraising. It costs approximately €250,000 per year to keep a lifeboat in Ballycotton, €1,667 to train one volunteer crew member, and €1,786 to kit out a crew member; funds raised at the event will ensure that the crew has the necessary equipment and training to keep our coastline safe. With your help, we hope that our 'Wild West' shindig can raise €10,000 - that's THREE new full trained and equipped life-saving volunteer crew.
The event is being generously sponsored by local businesses including the Blackbird, Matson's, VTSL Ireland, and many more.
During 2022, Ballycotton Lifeboat went to sea over 42 times; there were 11 shouts (rescues) which assisted 30 people in distress. The Ballycotton Lifeboat crew is made up of 25 volunteers and on average the lifeboat spent over 125 hours at sea between training and rescues.
Rescues in 2022 involved many different situations and different types of vessels and activities including fishing vessels, sailing vessels, jet skis, kayakers, and swimmers. In recent years, the Ballycotton Lifeboat crew have even assisted at rescues over 90 miles away.

About the organiser
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. It provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 nautical miles out from the coast of the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. The RNLI, which provides nine out of ten sea rescue launches, continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income. Working together with partners and communities, the RNLI aims to educate, influence, supervise and rescue those at risk from drowning.
Over nearly 150 years as a lifeboat station, the crews at Ballycotton have been presented with 19 awards for gallantry – the most recent in 2002. For another rescue in 1936, Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals were all awarded.
