About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Internationally, the mental health and wellbeing of farmers is an issue that is receiving significant attention. This seminar brings together two pieces of recently completed work that provides insights into the relationship between stress and wellbeing amongst farmers and, the prevalence and level of deaths from suicide. The seminar will be opened by Minister Martin Heydon and addressed by Prof Hazel Dalton, Senior Research Fellow of Rural Public Health (Health Services) at the Rural Health Research Institute at Charles Sturt University in Orange, NSW, Australia. Her research interests include rural health, mental health and health promotion.

The seminar is aimed at agriculture and mental health policy stakeholders, including organisations supporting farm and rural communities, and researchers working in this area. It marks the last public event organised as part of the Behaviours for Safer Farming project which is funded by the Department of Agriculture. Food and the Marine.
