"Will you chance the waltz?"

Composer Marian Ingoldsby will set a poem by celebrated Carrick poet and Aosdana member Michael Coady to music for percussionist Alex Petcu and soprano Kelley Lonergan which will be visualised by creative media artist Eimear King.

Before the event, the composer and the performers will discuss writing and recording under constrictions.

Marian Ingoldsby is one of Ireland's most inventive and original composers. Born in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, she studied composition with Gerald Barry at University College, Cork, graduating with an MA in Composition and winning the Fleischmann Prize in 1995. She is currently a lecturer in the music department of Waterford Institute of Technology.

Michael Coady was born in 1939 in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary where he still lives. Winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Award for Poetry in 1979 and the O’Shaughnessy Poetry Award (2004), he held the Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies at Villanova University in Spring 2005.

He has published six collections with The Gallery Press: Two for a Woman, Three for a Man (1980), Oven Lane (1987, a Poetry Ireland Choice. Revised 2014), All Souls (1997), One Another (2003), Going By Water (2009) and Given Light (2017). Relay Books published Full Tide, a miscellany, in 1999.

An Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex Petcu is establishing himself both nationally and internationally as a percussionist of the finest calibre. His debut album, "Alex Petcu: In Time", released on the RTE lyric fm label, showcases both seminal works and new contributions to the percussion repertoire.
