Event description

Description

Bloomsday is a unique celebration of James Joyce’s revolutionary novel Ulysses which takes place during a single day – on the 16th June 1904. This experimental masterpiece was published in 1922 in Paris and has had a profound impact not only in the various forms of art and literature but also in the way we think, feel, observe and interact in the art of living and dying as human beings in this strange kaleidoscopic world. Guided and directed by Bartholomew Ryan metamorphosing into Joyce on stage, you will be entertained and astonished by Joyce’s extraordinary poetic prose (which must be heard aloud!) and which will be delivered by a cosmopolitan collective of performers from The Lisbon Players Theatre, and with original music included between the readings. This year’s theme is a vision of ecological interpenetrations on a damaged planet via the art of Joyce.

It is required to reserve a seat in advance as there are limited places available. Entrance is free with voluntary donations to the event and the theatre. Supported by The Irish Embassy in Portugal and The Lisbon Players Theatre.
