Breaking Bard

The Cork Shakespearean Company is a wonderful educational theatre company, focusing almost exclusively on the works of William Shakespeare. Since their inception in 1924 by the late Fr. J.C. O'Flynn, many people have passed through their doors and have both remained with the company and also gone on to become highly successful in the field of theatre. Its warm, friendly, social outlook makes it the perfect beginning and stepping stone for the enthusiastic theatre lover, whether it be on stage, back stage or any other aspect of a theatre company.

After a century in the spotlight, the Cork Shakespearean Company knows the value of renewal—welcoming fresh talent is vital to keeping the company’s pulse strong. Breaking Bard is the result of a dynamic collaboration between actors and directors across a range of experience levels. Five directors were each given the challenge of selecting, casting, and directing scenes from the works of William Shakespeare. The outcome is a vibrant and eclectic blend of comedy, tragedy, and romance—reimagined through bold, inventive staging.
