WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Please note: Neither the webinar nor the group sessions are Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT). AVT is always Individual which will not be possible to do in a group session. However, throughout the sessions, Rosie will demonstrate some AVT techniques and strategies.

The first two in-person groups are scheduled for Tuesday 30th November 2021 and Tuesday 14th December 2021 at 10am

NOTE: You can sign up for this webinar without committing to the in-person sessions.

SPEAKER DETAILS

Rosie Gardner

I am a highly qualified and experienced specialist teacher of the deaf. I am also a certified Auditory Verbal Therapist and a qualified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS).

The aim is to give some practical ideas for having fun with listening. The four in-person group sessions that follow will build on this webinar. The group sessions will give ideas and techniques to encourage a child’s listening and language while giving the children 40 minutes of fun filled activities.

The individual sessions I provide with a parent are tailored to the child’s needs. I carry out an assessment of the child’s language and based on assessments, my own informal observations and information from the parent(s) I tailor the programme to the child’s needs. I like to carry out all my sessions in collaboration with the parents so that it is team work. All my sessions are play based.

Organiser Our New Ears in partnership with Chime

Organiser of Building your child's brain for listening and spoken language with Rosie.

Our New Ears (ONE) was established in December 2012 by a group of concerned parents. ONE is a voluntary, family-led group dedicated to the needs of parents, guardians and families of children and young people who are deaf and hard of hearing (the ONE Community).

The ONE Community is a diverse and wonderful group of families of children and young people who are deaf or hearing of hearing and use 'hearing technologies' in Ireland. Hearing technologies include CIs (cochlear implants), BAHAs (bone anchored hearing aids), hearing aids and ABIs (auditory brainstem implants).

Chime For over fifty years, we have championed for equal rights, greater accessibility and opportunities for individuals with deafness and hearing loss. Since our inception as the National Association for the Deaf, we have changed our brand name twice to reflect our evolving advocacy campaigning - DeafHear in 2007 and, as of 1st November 2018, Chime.

While our name has changed, our focus and values have not. We remain dedicated to a society where deafness and hearing loss doesn’t hold back an individual’s potential, personal choice or quality of life.

Our nationwide resource centres provide access to services, social workers, mental health professionals, resources, assistive technologies, as well as access to a community promoting social inclusion, events, and more.
