The Death of the Young in Virgil's Aeneid

About this event

This talk will examine why there is so much emphasis on the death of the young in the Aeneid, how the poet elaborates this theme, and what its implications are for the interpretation of the epic.

Fiachra Mac Góráin is a graduate of TCD and Oxford University and teaches Latin and Greek at University College London. His research interests include Virgil, Dionysus, and Classical reception in Ireland.

The Classical Association of Ireland provides lectures and social events for those interested in ancient Greece and Rome through its network of branches in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, and Sligo. Classical Association of Ireland Teachers (CAI-T) is a section of the CAI and works to support the teaching of classical subjects in Ireland. The CAI also enjoys a close relationship with the Classical Association in Northern Ireland (CANI).
