CAN Teen Sow It to Grow It Program
Event Information
About this event
Excited to announce our new Teen Sow It to Grow It Program
We have 2 raised beds and a 5 metre by 5 metre allotment in the Enniscorthy Community Allotments.
The allotment is on the same side as the Enniscorthy Sports Hub and there is parking on the opposite side.
We already have 8 Teens started with the Program who have planted their vegetables there is now space for 4 more Teens.
The plan is to meet at Beechdale Garden centre at the front entrance at 10.30am and then the Teens pick 3 vegetables each they want to grow, pick their gloves and their trowel etc
We want our Teens to get involved right from the start.
Stand at an empty plot and DreamBig. What can we grow in our plot?
What do we like eat? What's in Season? What do we need?
THE DREAM is for our teens to really get a sense of achievement. To start the plot, watch it grow, tend to it, harvest the plot and then the ultimate dream to bring their items to market to sell. Our teens at the market selling what they have grown.
Our regular days at the plot thereafter will normally be Tuesday evenings 6pm to 7pm while the vegetables have just been planted there isnt alot to do. There will also be Saturdays 11am to 1pm on and off as well.
Once we have planted and have the ground filled in the plan is to set up a mini company set up as a mini company whereby the teens will pay a small fee when they attend (€2) and this will go into a kitty with an account of everything that goes out. It is the aim that after the growing season the teens will each receive a little profit.
We are invested that year on year this Program will grow, our plot size may get bigger, more teens will join.
We are so excited to start something that we believe will be so beneficial to our Teens in our CAN Community.
This session is open to CAN Members only and for Teens aged 12+ years on the Autism Spectrum.
No siblings at this time as spaces are limited.
A parent MUST stay for the duration of the time.
