Guided hike to the Twin Glens or Cappagh Glen in Kerry

About this event

Distance: 7-10km

Height Gain: 300 - 500 meters (Approx)

Time: 4-5 hours

Fitness Level: Moderate fitness

Description of hike: This is a beautiful hike in the wilds of Kerry. The route itself is not too strenuous. The walk will lead you along a river and up to Lough Nabroda. From here you will skirt around the lake and continue onwards to Crohane Lake. From here there is a small climb on to a spur where you have two options. One you can head on an out and back leg to the summit of Bennaunmore, or alternatively you can drop down into the next valley and head back towards the cars along a wonderful river.

Bennaunmore is the remains of an extinct volcano and is extremely picturesque. This volcano overlooks the walk as you will be hiking up the valley on either side. The option to go to the summit can be decided on the day as it is an out and back leg (you could even drop your bags and head up to the summit with just your camera!!)

Equipment required:

Rain gear, boots, back pack, water, lunch/food, warm drink, hat and gloves and extra warm clothes for when you stop.

In general temperature drops by 1 degree every 100metres in height we climb. Please bear this in mind when packing your gear for the days hike. Wind chill can make this colder again so please bring the gear listed above.
