Description

Eurofound will launch new findings on how public and private (both for profit and non-for-profit) provision of care homes for older people has changed over the last decade. The report identifies the extent to which private providers are expanding and/or replacing public sector in the delivery of services, in a Europe where people are living longer and the need for affordable high quality care to support Europe’s increasing population. Mr Jim Daly, Minister of State at the Department of Health with special responsibility for Mental Health and Older People will launch the half-day event on Tuesday 28 November 2017, from 15.00 – 18.00 in Europe House, Dublin 2.

The new policy brief provides a comprehensive and comparative, up-to-date overview of the care homes for older Europeans across the EU and explores the implications of increased private provision in relation to service delivery, it looks at differences in accessibility, quality and efficiency of public and private (for profit and non-profit) provision of services and provides key messages for policymakers about how reform can best meet the needs of the service users. All of this set within the context of the European Social pillar which includes the right to affordable long term care services of good quality, in particular, home care and community based services. Also, the recent Country Specific Recommendations have focused on improving the cost effectiveness and cost efficiency of long-term care while ensuring the accessibility of services and improving service quality and provision. The research covers the EU 28 Member States and also includes Norway.

The launch will be an excellent opportunity for participants: policy makers, academics, practitioners, service providers, civil society, and social partners, representatives from national authorities and journalists to network, exchange ideas and learn about the experiences across other EU countries.
