Choco Chase: Exploring Sustainability through Play

Join us at the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Maynooth University, on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

Registration begins: 12:50 PM

Workshop begins: 1:00 PM

Time: 1:00–5:00 PM (Irish Standard Time)

Room: SE133

Location: Froebel Drama Room, Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Maynooth University

This interactive workshop explores how game-based learning can support sustainability education and systems thinking. Participants will engage with Choco Chase, an educational board game developed to examine sustainability challenges across the chocolate production lifecycle.

Using a facilitated, play-based approach, the session introduces key concepts including systems thinking, sustainability trade-offs, and life cycle assessment (LCA). Through structured gameplay and guided reflection, participants will examine how complex sustainability issues can be communicated in accessible and interdisciplinary ways.

The workshop is designed for educators, students, and early-career researchers interested in innovative approaches to sustainability education, public engagement, and environmental awareness. No prior knowledge of LCA or game-based learning is required.

This workshop is organised and delivered by Sakshi Anand, Research Assistant at Maynooth University and member of the BEST (Bioeconomy Education and Sustainability Teachers) Network. The event is supported through ESAI Grassroots Funding.

Further practical details will be shared with registered participants closer to the event date.
