About this event

  • 1 hour

Adapted from the Death Café model, a climate café is a simple, hospitable, empathetic space where fears and uncertainties about our climate and ecological crisis can be safely expressed over a hot drink and cake. This climate café is brought to you by Stoneybatter Festival Eco-Hub. Facilitators are involved in the climate movement including with local community groups and the Psychology Society of Ireland's Special Interest Group for Addressing Climate and Environmental Emergency.

Why do we need Climate Cafés?

As it becomes more evident that climate and ecological breakdown are a clear and present danger to our safety and wellbeing, we increasingly need to talk about what our changing world means for us. We need to be able to think about it clearly and constructively, and to explore feelings and thoughts which may often be taboo and hard to talk about. A climate café aims to be a warm, friendly and safe place to do just this, whilst connecting with like minded others. Doing so can help to build and maintain resilience to cope with the crisis and inspire thinking around a meaningful and fulfilled life within it.

Who is the Climate Café for?

Anyone over the age of 18 who believes the science indicating the severity of the crisis, and who wants to explore their feelings around this. It doesn't matter how informed you are, whether you are new to learning about the crisis, or you are a seasoned reader or activist in the area, you are very welcome to attend.
