Description

“Exploring Gaelic games coaching through the lens of game based pedagogy; Implications for practice”. What exactly is a Game Based Approaches (GBA)? Paul will present some of his findings on what coaches report they are currently doing at inter county level, along with some other insights into current practises in coaching. How does this current practise align with GBA pedagogy? What are the implications for coaches’ practice? Paul will also provide some ways in which coaches can incorporate GBA pedagogy in their practice.


Paul Kinnerk is a fomer intercounty player turned successful coach and Phd student at the University of Limerick. Paul graduated from UL as a PE and Maths teacher and coached the Clare minor hurlers to win th 2010 Munster title. He then helped the same generation of players to three U-21 All-Ireland title in a row from 2012 to 2014, and was also part of Davy Fitzgerald’s management team for the 2013 All Ireland senior success.

As well as working with the Limerick underage academies, he is coach to the Limerick senior hurling side that recently won promotion from Division 1B of the National Hurling League.
