Coláiste Thuama Nua is a two week Irish language course for secondary students in July designed and directed by experienced Irish teachers Aidan Burke, Colm Breathnach, Cathal Ó Conaire and James Moran located at Gaelscoil Iarfhlatha in Tuam.
This college was set up in 2018 to make the learning of Irish an enjoyable and positive experience. The course includes carefully graded courses with levels from first year to Leaving Cert Higher Level with emphasis on oral, aural, written skills, all the literature aspects of the junior and leaving certificate courses and preparation for state examinations including the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate exams. Each child will have and be graded on an Oral Irish exam by experienced examiners at the end of the course.
Students will work in a supportive classroom atmosphere. Students’ safety is a priority and therefore they must remain on the college campus for the duration of the morning, Classes run from 9.30 am to 1pm from Monday to Friday. The students will be supervised during the 20 minute break.
The course directors have written carefully planned exercises for each year level. Students may retain these booklets for revision purposes for their following year at school.
