COMERAGH CROSSING AND CHALLENGE -
SATURDAY, 6th JULY 2024
Dungarvan Hillwalking Club is delighted to host this annual event, with four different levels of walking, as follows:
Comeragh Challenge (45km), Comeragh Crossing (35km), Nire Valley Walk (20km) Kilbrien Walk (12km), see description of each walk below.
Registration for all walks is online and check in is at Kilgobinet Sports Centre, Bohadoon, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.
All four walks finish at Kilgobinet Sports Centre where showers are available.
All walks take participants to the top of Cruachán with its beautiful views of Dungarvan and the bay.
The area of the walk is on O.S.I. sheet 75.
By participating, you are making a contribution to our three chosen charities,
South Eastern Mountain Rescue, Waterford Hospice, and Dungarvan Lions Club.
Bus transport to the walk start, and a hot meal at the finish is included in the entry fee.
Entry Fee : €50 (Challenge, Crossing, Nire Valley) €25 (Kilbrien Walk). Fee is inclusive of booking fee.

Suitable waterproof clothing and boots are essential for all walks.
Walk 1 - Comeragh Challenge. Bus Leaves at 07:00 hrs Online Registration only.
Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre Bohadoon. This self navigated walk is 45kms, has an ascent 2,000m (approx) and is aimed at the very experienced and fit walker with navigation skills. It takes walkers via Lachtnafrankee and Knockanaffrin ridge to the Nire Valley, then via the Gap, Carrignagour, Boola Cairn to Coumfea, Seefin, Farbreaga and Cruachán. €50 Entry Fee.
Walk 2 - Comeragh Crossing. Bus Leaves at 07:30 hrs Online Registration only.
Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre Bohadoon. This walk is 35kms and takes 8 – 10 hours to complete via Long hill, Punch Bowl and the slopes of Knockanaffrin to the Nire Valley, then Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Mainly on mountain terrain and has an ascent of 1,250m (approx). Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. €50 Entry Fee.
Walk 3 - The Nire Valley Walk. Bus Leaves at 10:00 Online Registration only.
The Nire Valley car park to Kilgobinet Sports Centre Bohadoon. This walk is 20kms long and has an ascent of 900m (approx), it takes 5 – 6 hours to complete via Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. €50 Entry Fee.
Walk 4 - The Kilbrien Walk. Online Registration & on the day Registration from 12:30 walk commences at 13:00
Circular walk from Kilgobinet Sports Centre Bohadoon. This walk is 12 kms and has an ascent of 350m (approx) and it takes about 3 hours to complete. Via Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route. €25 Entry fee.
