Description of hike: This route is one of the most scenic routes in the Comeraghs. The route will start in the Coumshingaun trailhead car park. The walk will follow a well worn path heading up a steep climb to the top of Kilclooney Mountain. On the way up this climb you will have some wonderful views with Coumshingaun lake far below you and further afield looking across to the Waterford coast.
Once up above the lake and at Kilclooney the route follows the cliff around to the right with Coumshingaun far below. From here you will head over to Crotties rock, Crotties lake and the cave. Legend has it that William Crotty buried treasure in area so who knows maybe you will even find some treasure!!
There will be some time to enjoy a well earned lunch along the route.
Equipment required:
Rain gear, boots, back pack, water, lunch/food, warm drink, hat and gloves and lots of warm clothes.
While it is Spring it will still be cold. In general temperature drops by 1 degree every 100metres in height we climb. We will be climbing approx. 800metres so it will be approx. 8 degrees colder at the top. Please bear this in mind when packing your gear for the days hike. Wind chill can make this colder again so please bring the gear listed above.
