Connecting Struggles

The organisers are a group of campaigners from a host of organisations working on climate change, all of whom have extensive experience working with grassroots activist groups. This cohort of people identified a gap in teh Irish climate movement, and want to use their resources to facilitate groups coming together to connect, strategise and collectively harness energy for action on climate. The groups involved include: Friends of the Earth Ireland, Not Here Not Anywhere, All Ireland Student Activist Network, and Young Friends of the Earth.

Connecting Struggles - an interactive event to explore change making

The Chocolate Factory Arts Centre

Ireland is rich in activism. Across the years campaigns for social and environmental justice have have seen amazing wins, suffered setbacks and learned from successes and mistakes. How do successful groups work? What strategies and tactics work at what time? How can we best care for those inside and outside our movements? How can we work across movements and be good allies? How do you build? How do you recover from setbacks? On December 7th, representatives from activist groups that have been driving social and environmental justice, both locally and globally are coming together to share with each other.Through engaging in open discussions, interactive exercises, and with the insights of experienced activists, we'll delve into lived and learned examples of change making and discover new pathways to push for the future we each envision. The expectation is not to address the world’s problems sufficiently within an afternoon, but to acknowledge that our efforts are strengthened by the quality of connection and solidarity we can create and nurture – this begins (or continues) with sharing space, wisdom and experience. This event is being hosted by whoever wishes to participate and contribute. A number of groups have come together to help shape the content and structure, and many more are welcome to come along to represent their group and share their experiences on the day.And if you don't associate with any activist groups or organisation - you are also welcome along! The planning of this event started with a book called 'Resist: How to be an activist in the age of defiance'. Resist is a how-to guide for taking action for social justice, by learning from past and present movements, but the book is simply the flint to spark deeper, wider conversations on environmental and social justice.* The venue has wheelchair access and our event is family friendly - we'll have a kiddies corner!
