In a cotton-farming village in Sudan, Nafisa lives a simple life, picking cotton and learning from her grandmother, who teaches her about the dark days of British colonialism and how she will need to be vigilant to deal with contemporary threats. The arrival of a young Sudanese businessman threatens to change their way of life.
