CREATIVE HANDBUILDING WORKSHOP (2 HOURS)

SUNDAYS 2.30-4.30PM

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

This workshop is a great introduction to working with clay using handbuilding techniques, and you will be amazed at the skills you will learn, and what you can make during this half-day class.

Before ceramicists invented the pottery wheel, handbuilding was the only way to create functional and artistic ceramic forms. The oldest known ceramic artifact was handbuilt and is dated as early as 28,000 BC.

All you need to get started is clay, tools, your hands and creative enthusiasm. We’ll supply the clay and tools, and our expert teacher to guide and teach you - and you bring your hands and creative enthusiasm!

LEARNING OUTCOMES

You will learn how to make a pot or vessel through a variety of hand building techniques including:

- handling your clay

- working with your pottery tools

- utilizing coiling, slabbing, pinching, building, and sculpting methods

- shaping your piece

You may take as many of your pots home with you as you like (please note the pots will airdry over a few days and may then be used for display - they will not be glazed or watertight). Please bring small boxes (like Tupperware or cardboard) to bring your creations home with you.

If you would like to give this workshop as a gift please take a look at our Gift Cards here.
