Celebrate the Frances Browne Literary Festival with talks, workshops, performances, and readings. Explore poetry, prose, song, and storytelling in English, Irish, and Ulster-Scots across Ballybofey-Stranorlar.

Whatever your experience, medium, or language, this masterclass is for you. Poet Dubhán Ó Longáin and journalist &amp; writer Alan Millar join forces to spark creativity, build confidence, and explore new ways of writing.This special four-hour workshop welcomes writers of all levels. Through a mix of prompts, exercises, and discussion, you’ll discover new approaches to poetry, prose, and storytelling, while drawing inspiration from Ireland’s rich linguistic traditions — English, Irish, and Ulster-Scots.Lunch is included, and participants will leave with fresh ideas, new work, and renewed creative energy. <h3>When &amp; Where</h3><ul><li>Date: Saturday 11 October 2025</li><li>Time: 10.00am – 2.00pm</li><li>Venue: Parish Centre, Stranorlar, Co. Lunch included</li><li>Limited spaces - please book early</li></ul> <h3>About the Tutors</h3>Dubhán Ó Longáin Dubhán Ó Longáin is a poet, writer, researcher, and Irish language teacher. He has won awards for his academic research, his poetry (both ‘traditional’ and slam), and his short stories. He facilitates writing workshops for children and adults and is currently chairperson of the Irish Language Writers’ Association. Earlier this year, he undertook a poetry and storytelling tour of America, and he contributes regular articles on Irish folklore to the journal Nós.File, scríbhneoir, taighdeoir, agus teagascóir Gaeilge é Dubhán Ó Longáin. Tá duaisceanna bainte amach aige as a thaighde acadúil, a chuid filíochta (dánta ‘traidisiúnta’ agus ‘slam’ araon), agus as a chuid gearrscéalaíochta. Éascaíonn sé ceardlanna scríbhneoireachta dírithe ar pháistí agus ar dhaoine fásta. Is cathaoirleach é ar Aontas na Scríbhneoirí Gaeilge faoi láthair. Rinne sé turas filíochta/scéalaíochta i Meiriceá ag tús na bliana 2025 agus cuireann sé ailt rialta ar bhéaloideas na hÉireann ar fáil san iris Nós.Alan Millar Alan Millar is a journalist, writer, and poet from the Laggan Valley, East Donegal, now based in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim. He graduated from TCD and has a particular interest in the Ulster-Scots language. He is the only Irish person to have won the Scots Language Society’s Hugh MacDiarmid Tassie (2021), and he also won the inaugural Linen Hall Library Ulster-Scots short story competition in 2021, and the poetry section in 2023.His first poetry collection, Echas frae tha Big Swilly Swally, was published in May 2023, and he was nominated for Scots Writer of the Year at the Scots Language Awards that same year. His second collection, Frae Erris tae Wrath, assisted by ACNI, is forthcoming. Alan is a regular contributor to Kintra, the Ulster-Scots programme on BBC Radio. In 2024 he began a Doctorate at Ulster University on the United Irish newspaper, Northern Star.In 2025, he joined the Board of the Ulster-Scots Agency as Irish government nominee, co-edited the trilingual schools’ creative writing collection Abhainn Burn River, and became Ulster-Scots editor of Yellow House Press.

Donegal, the festival brings together poets, writers, musicians, and communities from Ireland and beyond to share in her spirit of creativity, inclusion, and multilingual expression.
