C﻿rawford Art Gallery is temporarily closed to facilitate necessary redevelopment work.Crawford Art Gallery is one of Ireland’s National Cultural Institutions, charged with the care of over 3,500 diverse artworks from the National Collection, from 18th century Irish and European painting and sculpture, through to contemporary video installations.In 2024, Crawford Art Gallery embarked on an ambitious redevelopment project, Transforming Crawford Art Gallery, to ensure the gallery’s historic buildings in the heart of Cork city are conserved and enhanced for generations to come.From 22 September 2024, Crawford Art Gallery is temporarily closed to the public to facilitate these redevelopment works. Gallery staff continue to work behind the scenes, caring for the collection, organising an offsite programme of Learn & Explore events, and preparing for reopening in 2027.For news and updates on Transforming Crawford Art Gallery, the best way to stay in touch during our closure is by signing up to our newsletter or following our social media accounts.

<DIV><SPAN><SPAN>A series of four writing workshops inspired by the Mary Swanzy <I>Voyages</I> exhibition will be held in the gallery, led by Laura McKenna. </SPAN></SPAN></DIV>
<DIV><SPAN><BR></SPAN></DIV>
<DIV><SPAN>Swanzy's richly varied life and artistic career will serve as a starting point for creative exploration through writing. </SPAN></DIV>
<DIV><SPAN>Using a combination of guided exercises and in-gallery observation, participants will have an opportunity to bring their own interpretation to the artworks through poetry, prose or creative non-fiction. </SPAN></DIV>
<DIV><SPAN><BR></SPAN></DIV>
<DIV><SPAN>These workshops will be suitable for beginners or more experienced writers who are seeking new sources of inspiration. </SPAN></DIV>

<DIV><SPAN><SPAN>Laura McKenna has just completed a Creative Writing PhD at UCC. She is shortlisted for this year’s Hennessy Literary Awards for poetry. Her short fiction was published in The Litro Anthology, Southword and Banshee &amp; won the </SPAN><SPAN>Penguin/RTE Guide Short Story Competition. Laura is a past winner at the Irish Novel Fair &amp; longlisted for the 2016 Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize &amp; Bath Novel Award.</SPAN></SPAN></DIV>
