From science, literature, and art, this conversation is an invitation to experience daily life creatively.

While Sara Baume builds her latest book, Opening Night, through friendship, memory, and reality, while her words strive to reflect the style of her friend Mollie's paintings, Alain-Paul Mallard moves effortlessly across genres and disciplines: film, photography, illustration, and literature. His book of short stories, An Evocation of Matthias Stimmberg, is considered a brilliant rarity. As for Guido Giunti, he lives creatively at the crossroads of science, education, literature, and technology through the design of educational video games, which is what he does as a hobby.

About the guests

Sara Baume is the author of three novels, the most recent of which, Seven Steeples, was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and the International Dylan Thomas Prize, and two books of narrative non-fiction, handiwork and Opening Night. She has received the Rooney Prize for Literature, a Lannan Literary Fellowship, the E. M Forster Award, and in 2023 she was named one of Granta magazine’s ‘Best Young British Novelists.’ She is based in West Cork where she works also as a visual artist.

Alain-Paul Mallard (Mexico City, 1970) is a writer, filmmaker, photographer, draftsman, and collector who currently lives in Barcelona. He studied Literature, European Intellectual History, and Film Directing in Mexico, Toronto, and Paris, respectively. He is the author of, among other works, the short story collection An Evocation of Matthias Stimmberg (trad. By Sarah Pollack, Wakefield Press, 2021) and the travel chronicle Altiplano: tumbos y tropiezos (2020).

Dr. Guido Giunti is a medical doctor from Argentina specialized in digital health design and development. He is also an entrepreneur, having co-founded TEDxUBA and designed the educational video game “Immune Defense“ and lead the development of “More Stamina“, a gamified digital health solution for people with Multiple Sclerosis. His innovative works have received numerous awards. Giunti is currently the Chief Data Officer at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin, and an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Oulu in Finland.
