Culturally Sensitive Practice Workshop

We aim to build knowledge and skills across front line practice; developing a targeted approach within a shared framework; creating dedicated support and services for families. The project aims to increase the awareness of the needs of families by creating a shared understanding of how systemic issues are impacting on lives and family wellbeing. Through training we hope to develop a knowledge hub, lending to peer support, best practice, referral pathways and a united approach to service delivery. We aspire to creating opportunities for lifelong learning supporting the retention of staff and knowledge in the Dublin 7 and 1 areas.

Dr. Dalikeni will deliver intercultural training for Infant Mental Health Family Support Workers with One Family.

Dr. Colletta Dalikeni is a CORU-Registered Social Worker and Lecturer on the BA (Hons) in Social Care at Dundalk Institute of Technology. She is the author of Child Protection Social Work with Asylum-Seeking Families: Issues of Race, Culture, Power Relations and Mistrust in Ireland (Peter Lang, 2023). With over three decades of experience working with children and families as well as in academia, her work highlights the importance of culturally responsive practice in health and social care, especially when supporting marginalised and ethnically diverse communities.Colletta’s research and teaching focus on cross-cultural practice, including themes of race, identity, migration, and child protection. She promotes culturally sensitive, reflective, and equitable approaches that acknowledge Ireland’s increasingly diverse population and encourage practitioners to work with cultural humility and build trust across difference.On Wednesday the 17th September 2025 , Dr. Dalikeni will deliver intercultural training for Infant Mental Health Family Support Workers with One Family. The session will explore:· How culture shapes parenting and parent-infant relationships· The impact of migration, trauma, and identity on families· Intersections of race, power, and culture in family support· Strategies for intercultural competence and cultural humility· Tools for reflective and bias-aware practiceThis training supports One Family’s commitment to holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally attuned support for one-parent families.
