Overview

Learn observation techniques to translate what you see into beautiful pencil drawings.

Drawing Fundamentals - Observation and Shading

Over a 3-hour workshop, you'll develop fundamental skills that transform how you see and represent the world around you.

In this course, you'll learn to:

  • Observe objects accurately and translate what you see to paper
  • Understand proportion, scale, and spatial relationships
  • Create form and dimension through value and shading
  • Apply various techniques to create realistic drawings

Who is this course for?

No prior experience is needed!

The course is suitable for anyone over 14 years-old, even if they don’t have previous experience. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to practice. Remember, drawing is a skill anyone can learn with the right guidance and consistent effort.

Materials:

These are the materials you'll need, but don't stress about the right brands or types. I'll supply materials you can test if you're new to drawing!

  • Drawing paper (preferably above 80 lbs or 130 gsm, but even printer paper works.)
  • HB and 6B pencils (I love Derwent pencils, but any brand works.)
  • Eraser

About the instructor:

I’m Inis, a designer and illustrator from Brazil who’s been living in Ireland for 9 years. I’ve been designing and illustrating for 10 years and have a diverse work experience ranging from small design agencies to big tech companies.

Although my art style is usually bold and whimsical, I also have a strong background in pencil drawing and watercolour.

Some of my work:

This is the kind of drawing you can work on during the class!
