About this event

KEY POINTS

The four boats have been restored to their original sailing condition of over 120 years ago. They are unique and a delight to sail. We can accommodate experienced sailors, competent crew and even novices. Crew complement is 3-5 per boat, always with an experienced skipper. For the modest sum of 500 euro, you can subscribe to a 2023 Season Ticket which will allow access to the 40 DBSC races, and every effort will be given to fairly meeting subscriber preferences. All subscriptions go solely towards annual maintenance of the fleet. All capital costs have been, and will continue to be, met by The Dublin Bay 21 Footer Class Association. See Newsletter below >>

Dublin Bay 21 Revival continues with “Sailors of the Dublin Bay 21s”

Membership Open for 2023 Sailing Season

The successful revival of the Dublin Bay Twentyone fleet, under Fionán De Barra and Hal Sisk, continues apace with the setting up of a new organisation - “Sailors of Dublin Bay Twentyones” (the Sailors) and for which membership is now open. The new organisation’s primary purpose is to support the Association, and to attract and manage crew rosters for racing and to cover the annual running costs for the fleet’s racing plans for the 2023 season and beyond.

The fleet is owned by the Dublin Bay 21 Footer Class Association and all capital and restoration costs have, and will continue to be met by the Association. However, annual running costs are not sustainable for the Association in the long term, and this is where the “Sailors of Dublin Bay Twentyones” come into play. The subscription of €500 per person for the full season will cover racing entrance fees, insurance, running and maintenance expenses and only these costs. The "Sailors" is being set up under the auspices of the Dublin Bay 21 Footer Class Association.

2022 saw the return of Naneen, Garavogue and Estelle, to DBSC after a 37-year absence and this year sees the addition of Geraldine to the fleet. All four boats will compete in DBSC and various regattas including the Volvo Regatta for the 2023 season. To facilitate this, the new organisation will comprise Skippers, Competent Crew and beginners who are committed to racing on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and other events such as rallies and regattas.

Restoration of this unique class was undertaken by Fionán de Barra and Hal Sisk, whose time, energy, and resources underpinned the restoration of the fleet. They are now keen to bring it to the next stage and to ensure an active and vibrant organisation of committed sailors of all levels from Skipper to novice. Each boat will be allocated several skippers and experienced crew members derived from the membership who will assist, train and encourage less-experienced members to refine and grow their own skills in sailing these magnificent boats. There will also be opportunities , to join our Association as a non-sailing supporter .
