Multiple Dates
Dublin University Choral Society Presents: Mendelssohn's Walpurgisnacht
Event Information
Description
University of Dublin Choral Society is pleased to present Mendelssohn's Walpurgisnacht, Mendelssohn's Christus and Mendelssohn's Hebrides overture.
David Leigh conducts these monumental works in the beautiful surroundings of Trinity's Exam Hall, located in the historic parliment square of Trinity College, in the shadow of the iconic campanile.
Mendelssohn's Walpurgisnacht is a Choral favourite in past decades and a rare example of a substantial choral work with a secular, non-religious text. It sets a poem by Goethe, which tells of the Druids in the Harz mountains attempting to celebrate May Day, which brings them into conflict with the Christians. This most dramatic and exciting of works brings to life the vivid imagery of the poem.
