David Bremner and Louise Manifold: Split Infinites (world première)

Evangelia Rigaki and Louise Manifold: Crushbar

We are delighted to pay our first visit to The Complex, based in the Markets Area of Dublin City Centre, for two exciting performances on June 5th.

Soprano Elizabeth Hilliard, in collaboration with composer, David Bremner and visual artist, Louise Manifold, has created an impactful and dramatic performance experience Split Infinites, based on a collection of poems by the American poet Rosmarie Waldrop that feature a profusion of overflowing and branching syntax. Somewhere between concert-piece and installation, and including projections, electronics, sung text and materials, the work made by this highly creative team aims to immerse us in the world of these poems, conveying what Waldrop describes as “language being larger than us, not simply a tool that we are a master of”.

The world première of this exciting new performance piece will be performed alongside an other-worldly video installation by Louise Manifold, Crush Bar. The installation was devised in collaboration with Elizabeth Hilliard and features music by Evangelia Rigaki.

Both works on the programme are funded by The Arts Council.

Presented in partnership with The Complex

The Dublin International Chamber Music Festival (formerly Great Music in Irish Houses) is Ireland’s longest-established chamber music festival and was founded in Castletown House in 1970. Since then, the month of June has been a musical summer must for Irish chamber music devotees. Our objective was and still is, to present concerts of chamber music, “the music of friends” in the sort of smaller, intimate spaces for which the music was originally written, away from the more formal setting of a concert hall. Over the years we have offered Irish audiences the opportunity to hear some of the finest international and Irish artists perform a vast range of chamber music in a variety of Ireland’s most historic and notable buildings, spaces that would not normally resound with beautiful and exciting music. Stately Irish Houses are juxtaposed with some of the country’s iconic, modern buildings showing the diversity of Irish architectural and interior design. From that small sapling planted in Castletown House, the great oak that is now the current Festival has grown and is recognised widely as a prestigious platform for world-class musicians.

DICMF is a non-profit making organisation and depends on the support of sponsors and Friends to continue its work into the future. It is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
