From Further Education to Higher Education: A seminar/workshop
Event Information
Description
The HEA’s National Access Plan 2015-19 aims to support increased access and participation in higher education for students in the Further Education and Training (FET) sector.
This seminar will provide an opportunity to examine some of the links that have recently been made between the further education and training sector and NUI Galway, as well as an opportunity to discuss some of the challenges facing students progressing from the Further Education and Training sector to higher education.
Level 5 and Level 6 Course Pathways:
NUI Galway now recognises over 50 QQI level 5 and 6 courses as pathways to a number of its full-time degree programmes. This development underscores a general commitment by NUI Galway to foster greater links with the Further Education and Training sector. For their part, the Further Education and Training sector have also shown a commitment to increasing the number of students progressing further education to higher education; this is generally set out in the SOLAS Further Education and Training Strategy 2014-2019.
About the Seminar:
While both sectors recognise the importance of developing new pathways to progress from further education to higher education, there have been limited opportunities to bring all parties together to discuss some of the important changes that have taken place in both sectors. This seminar/workshop event will fill part of this gap by bringing together colleagues to discuss some of the important developments that have taken place, as well as providing an opportunity to discuss how these links can be developed further.
Who should attend?
Colleagues involved in promoting greater links between the further education and higher education sectors. Guidance counsellors. QQI level 5 and 6 providers.
Please join us for what promises to be an important conversation!
