Do you have a sewing machine but don’t know how to use it?
Have you always wanted to learn to sew but don’t know where to start?
Join us for a series of hands-on sewing workshops. Learn skills to alter, repair & upstyle your clothing & embrace sustainability.
The course is suitable for beginner sewists & those with some sewing experience.
What You'll Learn:
Session 1
How a sewing machine works, how to thread a sewing machine correctly, how to wind a bobbin & load it, how-to pick-up bobbin thread, how to sew a basic seam, how to use a seam ripper. The most common problems encountered by beginners & how to avoid/fix these problems. How to pivot when sewing corners & how to change a presser foot on a sewing machine.
Session 2
How and when different stitches should be used, including using a zig zag stitch when sewing knit fabrics, how to adjust the length & width of stitches, select different stitch patterns on a sewing machine & how to sew curved seams. How to change a needle & what needles should be used for different types of fabric.
Session 3
How to make simple alterations to clothes you may have but currently don’t wear, including taking up/letting down hems on trousers & dresses, how & when to use the Blind Hem technique, how to insert darts, how to adjust a deep neckline etc.
How to clean and maintain your sewing machine, how to correct tension issues and trouble shooting issues with stitch quality etc.
Materials:
You will provide a sewing machine with the necessary accessories.
We will provide all necessary materials, including needles, threads, fabric scraps, and more.
Who Should Attend:
This workshop is perfect for adults of all skill levels interested in textile repair, sustainable fashion, and DIY clothing care.
