School Workshops

The Glucksman invites school groups to explore contemporary art in the galleries through a seasonal programme of art workshops. These sessions are tailored for different age groups to introduce creative and collaborative activities.

PLEASE NOTE: Schools should email education@glucksman.org to confirm details (including the workshop choice, number and age of students visiting) and to complete booking.The Glucksman invites school groups to explore contemporary art in the galleries and across the University campus through a seasonal programme of art workshops. These sessions are tailored for different age groups to introduce creative and collaborative activities.Workshops cost €100 and run for 1.5 hours.Workshops run Tuesday to Friday, 9am and 11am.Advance booking with the education department is essential for all workshops.Contact <a href="mailto:education@glucksman.org" title="mailto:education@glucksman.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">education@glucksman.org</a> or +353 21 490 1844The current programme of school workshops will run from 29 April to 4 July, and 2 September to 31 October 2025.This season our school workshops respond to the exhibition Condition Check: Health and wellbeing in the UCC Art Collection.Condition Check: Health and wellbeing in the UCC Art CollectionCondition Check presents artworks from the University College Cork Art Collection that explore the intersection of art and healing with a particular focus on mental health and physical wellness. Including artworks that reflect on grief and loss, the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic and public access to healthcare, this exhibition invites you to consider the importance of creative expression, shared cultural experiences and embodied connections for our ongoing personal and societal wellbeing.Workshop options. Choose one of the options relating to the age of your class group.Primary School Junior Cycle<ol><li>Nature &amp; Wellness: Enjoy the benefits of time in nature with this creative walk through the University College Cork lower grounds. Students will engage in a series of creative processes including drawing, rubbing, and collecting as they develop their own nature and wellbeing books.</li></ol><ol><li>Heart in Art: In art, the heart is often used to illustrate love, emotion or health. In this fun hands-on art workshop, participants will take inspiration from current exhibition Condition Check before using a variety of materials including air drying clay, ink and collage to create their own works of art.</li></ol>Primary School Senior Cycle1. Better Together: Create a large scale collaborative banner that promotes a supportive, positive school environment for all students. Using collage, illustration and stencilling, students will work together to create an artwork that can be proudly displayed in their school.<ol><li>Postcards of Positivity: This workshop explores the importance of positive affirmations through a series of creative activities. Participants will create their own postcards for their future self, and the Glucksman will post the cards to students during the First Fortnight Festival in January 2026.</li></ol>Secondary School Junior Cycle<ol><li>Collective Care: Experiment with a variety of drawing techniques in this hands-on workshop inspired by artist Cassandra Eustace. Students will use graphite, ink, pastel and charcoal as they trial imaginative approaches to mark making.</li></ol><ol><li>In My Head: Explore mental health through illustration in this creative workshop that draws inspiration from artists The Project Twins. Students will create large scale drawings that address themes of well-being, health education, stigma, resilience, and recovery.</li></ol>Secondary School Senior Cycle<ol><li>Slow Walking: Take the time to embrace the beauty of our natural world and document your experience through drawing, printmaking and photography. This walk will take place along the UCC Biodiversity Trail.</li></ol><ol><li>Drawing and Movement: Discover drawing as a full body experience in this creative workshop. Working both individually and collaboratively on large scale experimental drawings, students will explore thoughts, feelings and physical sensations using charcoal, graphite and pastel.</li></ol>
