The Glucksman invites school groups to explore contemporary art in the galleries through a seasonal programme of art workshops. These sessions are tailored for different age groups to introduce creative and collaborative activities.

Workshops cost €100 and run for 1.5 hours.
Workshops run Tuesday to Friday, between 9am and 11am.
This programme of school workshops will run from 9 April to 1 November 2024.

Groundwork: Climate awareness in the UCC Art Collection

This exhibition brings together artworks from the UCC Art Collection that focus on environmental observations and concerns, giving us an opportunity to reflect on the diverse ecologies that sustain our natural world.

Wiorshop options:

Primary School Junior Cycle

  • Wild for Nature: Discover the wildlife of University College Cork in this fun hands-on workshop. Students will walk the lower grounds arboretum adjacent to the River Lee creatively documenting the many species that make UCC their home.
  • Home in the Trees: A tree isn’t just a tree, it’s the hundreds of other species that live in and around it. In this workshop we’ll explore what inhabits a tree and using a wide variety of art materials, students will illustrate what they learn.

Primary School Senior Cycle

  • Trees with Stories: Recreate the stories behind some of the amazing trees in the UCC arboretum. This workshop will include a creative walk alongside drawing and collage activities.
  • Tales of an Island: This creative drawing workshop invites students to work collaboratively and create a map of Ireland that shares insights into the nation’s history, heritage and landscape.

Secondary School Junior Cycle

  • Making a Difference: Develop creative guides to support people to deal with the climate crisis. The collaborative workshop will involve an exploration of artworks in Groundwork and practical bookmaking, design and drawing activities.
  • Our Future’s Bright : This collage and drawing workshop invites students to reflect on Ireland’s past and present and how it might influence our future.

Secondary School Senior Cycle

  • Sounds of Nature: Record the sounds of nature in this workshop that draws inspiration from Garrett Phelan’s The Hide Suite. Students will take their recordings and creatively respond through drawing and collage.
  • ACT NOW!: This workshop invites students to create posters that highlight endangered animals and that call for urgent action to improve their situation.
