‘Great Aunt Jane - A Family Perspective’

with Caroline Jane Knight

Jane Austen’s fifth great niece

Caroline shares more than Jane Austen’s name and DNA ... Caroline is the last Austen descendant to grow up in Chawton on the ancestral estate where Jane herself lived and wrote. Caroline explored the same places around Chawton House and its grounds as Jane did, dined at the same table in the same dining room, read in the same library and shared the same dream of independence.
Caroline shares her unique childhood growing up surrounded by four hundred years of family history in the heart of Great Aunt Jane’s literary legacy, private family photographs and how Jane Austen’s extraordinary popularity has changed the lives of her Chawton family today.’
Caroline writes: ”I am thrilled to be coming to Ireland, following in the footsteps of Jane’s nieces – my fourth great aunts – Marianne, Louisa and Cassandra Knight, all of whom would have known and loved our Chawton home as well as I do. How exciting to be visiting the country that hosted my aunts and became part of our family history.”

Caroline will also have copies of her book: 'Jane & Me - My Austen Heritage' for sale on the day and will kindly sign any copies on the day.
