Event description
Learn about sustainable fashion from experts and compete in groups to run the best social media awareness campaign for SFI Science Week!

About this event

Welcome to GITNB, a seminar series focussed around the differences of “fast” fashion trends in comparison with “fair” or “sustainable” fashion (and clearly caring less about horrible acronyms).

Over the course of four sessions, we want to explore the aspects of fast fashion together, guided by talks from a broad variety of speakers and backgrounds. Each session will also contain interactive segments for group work. We will examine different aspects of the fashion industry, from its historical development over environmental and social impacts to modern trends, trendsetters and alternatives. Ultimately, you will be introduced to the topic of social media marketing and have the opportunity to develop and run your own social media campaign in groups to apply your learning. The best campaign team will receive vouchers for sustainable fashion outlets!

Who can participate:

Any undergraduate students from either University College Dublin or Trinity College Dublin. We can accommodate up to 20 students.

When is it taking place:

Seminar sessions will run from the 27th September until the 11th October.

  • 27th September 17:30 – 19:00
  • 4th October 17:30 – 19:00
  • 6th October 17:30 – 19:00
  • 11th October 17:30 – 19:00

The social media campaign will be launched during SFI Science Week (8 - 12th November) and we will have a dinner and awards ceremony on the 17th November.

Where will it be taking place:

For the seminars we will be meeting in person on UCD premises. Further details TBD.

What is required:

There are no requirements. An interest in either fashion and/or sustainability however might be an advantage!
