About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Positive behaviour guidance is not only about responding to a child’s behaviours but also encompasses understanding the child as a whole, their context and the impact of your early years environment.

Planning as a team, working with parents, and engaging with external supports are key components in a robust approach to working with children and their behaviours.

The contents of this workshop, while practical in nature, will also provide participants with an understanding of WHY children behave the way that they do and will outline strategies which can be used to support children before, during and after these moments.

It will reframe how we view children’s behaviour, providing a new perspective on how to work with children and their families. Participants will be familiarised with the nature of children at different ages and how to facilitate children in developing the skills to express themselves in ways that are in line with their stages of development.

Key Topics:

- Where children’s behaviour comes from

- How to respond to children’s behaviour (general and specific strategies)

- How NOT to respond to children’s behaviour

- Preventative strategies

- Using the environment

- Emotions and interactions

- Positive Behaviour Guidance Policy

- Working with parents, colleagues and external supports
