Hibernian Law Medal | Mr Justice Frank Clarke, chaired by Chief Justice O'Donnell

The Hibernian Law Journal is pleased to invite you to attend the award of the Hibernian Law Medal which will this year be conferred upon former Supreme Court Justice of Ireland, Mr. Justice Frank Clarke, at an event chaired by Chief Justice O'Donnell.

This year’s honoured recipient will accept the Medal at a formal conferral ceremony, held at the Law Society of Ireland, during which Mr Justice Clarke shall deliver an acceptance speech recounting his legal experiences, engage in discussion and answer questions from the audience.

The Hibernian Law Medal is awarded annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions, in any combination, to the advancement of justice, the integrity of the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession, and public access to and understanding of the legal system; whether in Ireland or in a comparable jurisdiction. The ambition of the Hibernian Law Medal is to formally recognise individuals whose legal careers have been characterised by a profound commitment to those ideals.

The first Hibernian Law Medal was awarded jointly to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, following her retirement as Chief Justice of Canada; to Baron Neuberger of Abbotsbury, following his retirement as President of the UK Supreme Court; and to former Chief Justice Ms Justice Susan Denham, following her own retirement. The second Hibernian Law Medal was awarded jointly to Ms Justice Catherine McGuinness, formerly of the Supreme Court of Ireland, and Professor Mary McAleese, 8th President of Ireland in March 2019.

Most recently the Hibernian Law Medal was awarded to Mrs Mary Robinson, 7th President of Ireland; and to Baroness Hale of Richmond on her retirement as President of the UK Supreme Court.

Admission is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. A drinks reception will follow the formal conferral ceremony. CPD points available on request. The Hibernian Law Journal hopes to welcome you to the Law Society of Ireland on 5 June for this special event which is proudly supported by the Journal's sponsors, McCann Fitzgerald LLP, Mason Hayes & Curran LLP, William Fry LLP and Matheson LLP.
