Join Sligo Bay Catchment Rivers Trust for a Saturday morning of Himalayan balsam removal around Glencar and the Diffreen River.

Atlantic Technological University Sligo

We're heading back to the Glencar / Diffreen River area on Saturday morning to continue our Himalayan balsam removal work. This is a particularly important week for the project. It will be our final week of working on new sites and expanding the areas we've already cleared. After this week, we'll move into maintenance mode across all our sites, systematically revisiting areas we've worked on throughout the season. The aim is to make sure any late-emerging or missed plants are removed before they have a chance to set seed, and to keep our cleared areas balsam-free until the first frost. The enormous amount of work our volunteers have put in this year is already making a difference, and this maintenance phase is crucial to making sure that effort isn't lost.No experience is required and all equipment will be provided.
Meeting Times

9:30am – ATU Sligo Car Park (for anyone travelling together)

10:00am – Glencar – exact meeting point to be shared shortly

Finish: Approximately 1:00pm

What to Bring

Sturdy footwear or wellington boots

Long trousers and long sleeves recommended

Clothing suitable for the weather

Waterproofs if rain is forecast

Sun cream, a hat and plenty of drinking water if it's warm

As always, we'll have hot and cold drinks and plenty of biscuits available.
Weather & Event Updates
Please keep an eye on the Eventbrite event page and your emails for any updates before the event.
