Overview

At NCAD, 100 Thomas St, Usher's Quay, Dublin 8, D08 K521

Join us for a Basic Talks with artist Paul Hallahan.

Paul Hallahan is a Dublin based artist working from Fire Station Artists’ Studios. Primarily utilising painting and video, his practice investigates nature and its relationship with humans, focusing on our perception of the natural world and the ways in which we disassociate from it, whether through landscape, flora or fauna. His layered works remain open and fluid, evolving with changes in time, light and perspective, while his video works share this sensibility through a focus on duration and drift.

Recently, Hallahan presented the solo exhibition Set Adrift on Memory Bliss at Maus Contemporary in Birmingham, Alabama, in December 2025. He has exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad, including solo exhibitions at venues such as the RHA, The Complex and The Dock.

As one half of the artistic and curatorial collaboration Hallahan and Welch, he co-curated the major exhibition All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun at Dublin Castle in 2025 and will present Songs to the Siren at The Model, Sligo, in 2026. Between 2009 and 2012, Hallahan founded and directed Soma, an artist run gallery in Waterford City. There, he balanced a locally focused programme of contemporary Irish art alongside collaborations with numerous international artists and institutions, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).

A 2018 recipient of the Golden Fleece Award, his work is held in numerous public and private collections.

Free, book or come on the day subject to availability.
