How Open Data can help our Environment

Derilinx makes it easy to discover, access and use Open Data. We support improved transparency, analysis, and decision-making through Open Data sharing. Derilinx has been leading Open Data developments, both in Ireland and internationally, since 2010.Derilinx has recently been awarded onto theNational Framework for the Provision of Technical Assistance and Supportto Ireland’s Open Data Initiative,  including Open Data Management, auditing data, data publishing, linking data, Use Case analysis, data analytics, development of visualisation tools and applications.

The Open Data Impact Series promotes awareness, adoption and use of Open Data in different sectors, and supports the publication of high-quality Open Data.
<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">Session 3: How Open Data can help our Environment</H2>
Open Data is a valuable resource that can provide key insights to help protect our environment and support sustainability. Open Data can be used to build new applications, enhance existing products or provide additional context for decision-making There is a large amount of Open Environment Data available in Ireland, from meteorological and waste data, to information about air and water quality, and land usage and energy consumption.
In this third session of the Open Data Impact Series, we will talk to both publishers and users of Open Environment Data. We will look at how the data is being adopted and used, what challenges users face, and what other environment data could potentially be made available.

The National Open Data Initiative in Ireland is led by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, and is a key part of reform activities aiming to build more open, transparent and accountable public governance in Ireland. Over 9,000 datasets are available on the <A HREF="https://data.gov.ie/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Portal</A> from a wide range of Public Sector publishers, including the Central Statistics Office, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Met Éireann. 
Ireland has been highlighted as an <A HREF="https://www.europeandataportal.eu/en/dashboard#2018" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Leader in Europe</A>, ranking First for the second year running in the Open Data Maturity Report in terms of readiness and quality of data published, use, and impact.
The <A HREF="https://data.gov.ie/sites/default/files/files/Final%20Strategy%20online%20version(1).pdf" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Data Strategy 2017-2022</A> builds on the substantial achievements of the Open Data Initiative and sets out a roadmap for the Initiative’s continued progress and development for the next five years.
