What is this conference about?The interpreting profession is constantly changing right in front of our eyes, and TRANSLIT’s conference “Interpreting Insights: from Local to Global” will help you stay up to date with the latest developments in this brave new world of global interpreting. We in TRANSLIT believe that the experience of the past year has changed the interpreting profession forever. Every interpreter is now expected to be able to provide remote interpreting services and work with clients all over the world. New challenges Being able to pick up an interpreting assignment anywhere in the world means that interpreters are moving from being local to being global. And this move, of course, poses a lot of questions, raises a lot of challenges, and reveals problems that we need to deal with. Alex Chernenko is the CEO and Founder of TRANSLIT, interpreter and translator in 6 languages. He has been working in the language industry for two decades.Session 2: 11.55 – 12.30 - Diverse approaches to medical interpreting: lessons for all interpreters /Hans Verrept/ In this presentation, Hans Verrept will discuss the different existing approaches to medical interpreting, and outline potential pitfalls and faux pax that interpreters need to learn to avoid when expanding their reach from local to global as medical interpreters. Hans Verrept is the Head of the intercultural mediation and policy support unit of Belgium Federal Public Service for Health. Hans has worked with the Council of Europe, the International Medical Interpreters Organisation, and WHO. Session 3: 12.35 – 13.15 - Lessons learned in the pandemic year: tips, tricks &amp; hacks for working online /Natalia Fedorenkova/It has been a year now since the world was forced to go online, and the interpreters with it. We had to adjust, and fast, learning the tricks of the trade on our way. But we pushed through, we survived, and learned a lot! Let us discuss what kept us afloat and share the experience and lessons learned.Natalia Fedorenkova is a freelance conference interpreter, and in the last two years she has engaged in remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI) with Interprefy, Interactio, Verspeak , and TRANSLIT. Session 4: 13.20 – 14.00 - Setting up as a remote interpreter / Muhamed Durmic/In his presentation, Muhamed Durmic will outline the steps that interpreters need to take to move to remote work, the equipment and technology that can be used, and give general advice on how to make the transition to remote interpreting less stressful and more rewarding Muhamed Durmic is a senior conference interpreter and a certified court interpreter with over 25 years of experience in the field. Being involved in remote interpreting since 2015 , he is experienced in working with a number of different RSI platforms. Break: 14.10 – 14.40 OR:Session 5: 14.10 – 14.40 - Facilitated networking sessionThis is a great opportunity to meet your colleagues from all around the world, and to discuss our common issues and challenges. Find out about different equipment and platforms used, listen to various tips and tricks of the trade, offer your opinion and advice. See what works for your peers and what does not work, try to find new ways of improving your services and growing your business.Session 6: 14.45 – 15.20 - Your path to remote interpreting /Alex Gusev/In this presentation, Alex Gusev will describe different types of RSI platforms and the features that are available to interpreters when working with RSI. Alex will also demonstrate the interpreter interface of the TRANSLIT RSI platform and show how using TRANSLIT RSI can become your first easy step into the world of RSI.Alex Gusev is the Business Development Manager at TRANSLIT. He became CEO of SpeakUS in 2017, one of the first wave of RSI providers based in Moscow, Russia. Session 7: 15.25 – 16.10 - The Basics of Acting for Interpreters /Claudia Brauer/Remote interpreters must convey content, subcontext, human behavior, and emotions. Stanivslasky’s Method Acting helps develop your acting skills, empathy, and identification with “the other” to understand their influencing emotions. Claudia Brauer is well known for designing and delivering hundreds of hours of language-neutral proprietary content for interpreters and translators. Her “Method Acting” proposal for Interpreters is trail-blazing and spreading quickly to other teachers. Session 8: 16.15 – 16.45 - Marketing &amp; selling yourself globally / Svetlana O’FarrellWhen you move into the global marketplace with the help of remote interpreting services, you need to be able to market yourself very efficiently. In this presentation, you will learn to work on your self-branding to make sure it reflects your unique strong points. You will also learn to present yourself to your customer in a way that aligns with your brand. Svetlana is TRANSLIT&#x27;s Training Development Manager; she is a certified translator and professional interpreter with 30 years of experience in language services. Session 9: 16.50 – 17.30 - Roundtable discussionDuring the Roundtable discussion, you will get a chance to ask any remaining questions to the speakers and to other panelists. The panel wil include the previous speakers, and also additional panelists Jeannette Juston and Rafael Adam. Closure: 17.30 – 17.45 - Closing CeremonyWe hope you enjoyed the conference!
