Intro to 3D Printing

This course will explain the concept of 3D printing and demonstrate how to use a 3D printer with demonstrations on our new Prusa Minis. 3D printing is an extremely versatile prototyping technology which has a large variety of available materials. Then we will look at more recent, advanced 3D Printing techniques, including resin and SLS printing. 3D printing is a very accessible technology, advancing all the time with dedicated online communities and open source designs.

Bring along a notebook, or a laptop if you wish. If you have an idea of something you'd like to test or to make, let us know. If there is time, we may be able to try it!

Fab Lab Limerick started in 2012 as an elective course at the School of Architecture, UL in which open source 3D printers, CNC routers and laser cutters were built. In 2014 this self-build equipment was moved to an empty building in the city centre owned by Limerick City Council.

Since then, Fab Lab Limerick has evolved into a fully functional digital fabrication laboratory that offers cultural, educational and research programmes on digital fabrication, bridging the gap between these technologies and creatives from all disciplines.
