Ira is a polish rock band, originally from Radom. It was created in 1987 and have made their debut in 1988 at the National Festival of Polish song in Opole.The group’s first album “Ira” was published in 1989.
Released in 1991 the album “Mój Dom” (“My House”), “1993” and also the concert album “Live” have had achieved tremendous success and the same has guaranteed their place amongst the leading groups of polish rock bands. Hits like “ Nadzieja” ( “Hope”), “ Mój Dom” ( “My House”), “ Bierz Mnie” (“Take Me”), “ Wiara” (“Faith”) and “California” - to this day heat up the crowds during each live performance.
In the second half of the 90’s the band has changed their style, here with the album “Znamię (“Mark”) they have reached a slightly heavier sound. In 1996 after releasing the album “Ogrody” (“Gardens”) the band's guitarist and co-founder Kuba Płuicisz has ended his work with the band. Few months later Ira unfortunately suspended their activity.
After a 7 year break the group has decided their return to the stage. They went on tour under the slogan: “ IRA – WRACAMY” (“IRA-WE ARE BACK!”) which has gathered crowds of fans and assured the group of their wise decision.
On August 12th , 2012 the band released the album “Tu I Teraz” (“Here And Now”), picking up on a wider audience. In the year 2003 Ira celebrated their 15th anniversary with a Jubilee Concert held in Amphitheatre in Radom which brought together nearly 7,000 fans. This year also brought about changes to the band members, this resulted in an addition of 3 new: Marcin Bracichowicz, Maciej Gładysz and Sebastian Piekarek.
On the 29th of March 2004 the studio album “Ogień” (“Fire”)with the lighter “Tu I Teraz” (“Here and Now”) has led to the comeback of a much heavier guitar sound and the musical roots of the band.
In November the album “Live 15th Anniversary” and the recording of the Jubilee Concert was released in a version of digipack-CD=DVD. With the beginning of a 2005 Ira started a Club Tour which lasted until March.
The early April was a starting time to the outdoor tour. In June 27th the guitarist Piotr Konca joined Ira replacing Sebastian Piekarek and Maciej Gładysz which alternated when playing in the band. In the year 2006 Ira began their concerts for the Polish charity organisation “Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy” (“The Great Orchestra of Christmas Aid)” in Niepolomice and Krakow.
On October 14th a celebration of the 18th Anniversary of Ira’s existence took place in the form a concert at the Krakow Studio Club. On the 8th February 2008 the group introduced a series of concerts titled “ Żywiec na śniegu“(“Żywiec in the snow”.)
At the turn of 2008-2009 the band began working on their 9th album.
March 6th was a start of a new tour “Ira Akustycznie” (“Ira Acoustic") in Bielsko-Biala where band has presented acoustic versions of their greatest hits.
A premiere of the next album “9” was held on the 30th of October which turned out to be quite of a success as later the radio aired 5 singles that promoted the album. 20th March in Poznan Ira launched the “ESKA ROCK TOUR” alongside the band Carrion.
In September 2010 Ira received 3 awards in the following categories: “Best Rock Album”, “Band Of The Year”and “Best Performance” all held at a Festival in Opole. It is worthy to mention that the album “9” of special edition was received with a DVD containing music videos and a movie titled “Czym Jest Dla Ciebie Ira” (“What Does Ira Mean To You”) also awarded a status of a Golden Album.
In the year 2012 Ira celebrated their 25th anniversary. On this occasion the band set off on a Birthday Tour under the slogan “Ira-25 Lat” (“Ira-25 Years”) serving their fans songs in new arrangements. With the beginning of 2012 the band released a new single titled: “Taki Sam” (“The Same”) announcing their new album. In June yet another single was released by the band with the title “Szczesliwa” (“Happy”).March 2013 was the time for the single titled “Uciekaj” (“Run Away”).
After about 4 years since album “9”release, the band recorded two new albums titled ”X” which featured 10 tracks such as the well-known “Taki Sam” (“The Same”),“Szczęśliwa (“Happy”) and “Uciekaj” (“Run Away”).The second album was a real treat for all of the lovers of Ira as the band decided to record three songs in English which were previously featured on the “9” album ,”Moj Bog” (“My God”) ,“Taki Sam” (“The Same”) and “Styks”.As a novelty the second album featured the biggest hits in all new arrangements.As a additional bonus the album also featured a beautiful blues that was sang alongside Patrycja Markowska.
The second last release from the band was “Ira Akustycznie Live DVD+CD” (“Ira Acoustic Live-DVD+CD”) which was a recording of the concert that took place on October 2014 at a Club in Lodz.The Legends of the polish stage uncovered their softer and delicate side by performing new, acoustic arrangements of their hits. Thanks to the help of Jacek Piskorz a concert musical manager the band came in contact with a unique sound of strings,electric piano and accordion which was integrated into their style.The release was awarded with a status of a “Golden Album”.In May 2016 the band released the album “ My” (“Us”) which promoted the singles “Powtarzaj” (“Repeat”) and “Wymysleni” (“Imaginary”).
Ira is without doubt one of the greatest and most popular bands of the polish music stage history.
Repeatedly nominated and honoured with the biggest awards. The band’s albums gain excellent selling results and their singles constantly conquer top charts.
