Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host an exhibition of uplifting, lockdown inspired watercolours of Dalkey by the local artist John Short.

From the start of COVID-related travel restrictions introduced on 29 March 2020 John Short began using his daily 2km permitted walk to make a visual record of his neighbourhood under 'lockdown'. Luckily for Short, his house and studio lie in the picturesque and historic town of Dalkey Co. Dublin, known for its many medieval castles, grand Victorian architecture and superb coastal vistas overlooking Dublin and Killiney Bays. Using both sketchbook studies drawn 'en plein air' and photography, Short captures his favourite local landmarks at the perfect moment and then returns to his garden studio to produce the finished paintings in watercolour.John began sharing his daily paintings to Facebook, Instagram and the Dalkey Online Community Forum. Local and international interest in these works has been so overwhelming that the artist has now decided to frame and exhibit the work so that Dalkey residents can enjoy them.The series has culminated in 37 original watercolour paintings and 15 limited edition prints.
