Work-related language skills are crucial to the integration and participation of second language (L2) adult migrants and ethnic minorities in the workplace. This international Language for Work (LfW) online event aims to bring together a broad range of stakeholders to network and share ideas about language for work for L2 learners in Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland and Austria. The event will offer practical guidance for teachers, policymakers and others involved in supporting work-related L2 learning by adult migrants and ethnic minorities across the country. Participants will be also be introduced to resources and findings from the ECML Language for Work Project https://languageforwork.ecml.at/

Facilitators

Edita Hornackova Klapicova (SK) is associate professor at the Department of Translation Studies at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia with more than 20 years experience in teaching and research related to linguistics, translation studies and bilingualism. She is national coordinator for the LfW workshop and a member of the ECML expert team.

Alexander Braddell (UK) is a workplace basic skills consultant with over 20 years’ expe-rience, much of it in the context of health and social care. He was a member of the coordina-ting team of the LfW Projects, sponsored by the ECML/Council of Europe.

Matilde Grünhage-Monetti (DE) is a researcher, project manager and work-related L2 tea-chers’ trainer with more than 20 years of experience in workplace learning in industry and services. Why should you attend?  You will have an opportunity to come together with other attendees, engage with experts in the field, and learn about language for work interventions and initiatives in other countries. You will also be able to interact with a broad group of stakeholders in thinking about what practical steps might be taken to support language learning for the workplace in Slovakia and other participating countries.
