We are looking for students aged between 15 and 17 to take part in the first Leinster Brain Bee, a competition to motivate students to learn about the brain and to inspire them to pursue careers in neuroscience, so they can help treat and find cures for brain disorders.
The competition, which takes place on March 23rd at 12pm in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), will be an individual quiz, based on material from preselected chapters in the International Brain Bee Brain Facts Book.
Two winners from each province will go forward to the National Final in NUI Galway on the 18th of April and the winner of the National competition will represent Ireland at the International Brain Bee in Washington DC.
FutureNeuro, the SFI Research Centre for Chronic and Rare Neurological Diseases is sponsoring a number of prizes for the Leinster Brain Bee. The Centre will also contribute to travel costs for the winners and accompanying adults to attend the National Final. Neuroscience Ireland will cover the costs for the National winner and accompanying adult to go to Washington.
In addition to participation in the quiz itself, students will receive lunch, a tour of RCSI facilities and historical buildings, the opportunity to speak and interact with FutureNeuro scientists and researchers and participate in interactive research demos. Each participant will receive a participation certificate and there will be spot prizes throughout, as well as prizes for the top 3 placing students. The students who progress to the national/international competition will receive free tuition from neuroscience researchers to help them compete.
Attendance is limited to 30 students so it will be a first come first served basis and students are advised to register as soon as possible. If a large school group is interested in taking part, please email leinsterbrainbee@gmail.com
Further information can be found in the attached flier and students/educators can obtain more information by contacting Leinsterbrainbee@gmail.com or visiting https://www.futureneurocentre.ie/engagement/leinsterbrainbee/
