Conversation, reflection and workshop on the role that ritual plays in dealing with environmental and species loss.
About this event
Liquid Loss refers to the intangible forms of grief and mourning that follow the death and loss of species and lands (Dillon, 2019). It is the grave loss of ancestral lands. It is the unstoppable loss of access to land, to what one used to call home, or even to public land. It is the irreversible loss of species and ecosystems. It is, finally, a loss for which no protocols of mourning exist, and for which there is no settled way to channel grief. Because it remains unfocused and unaddressed, liquid loss leaks everywhere, affecting all aspects of life.
Understanding "Liquid Loss" both as interconnectedness between human and nonhuman bodies, and an approach or process that that engages with a lacrymose interdisciplinarity.
Our practices draw on the fields of art, activism, law, healing, creative and academic writing, conservation and research with a focus on the role that ritual plays in attuning to such loss.
This conversation and workshop session will be held online, in conjunction with "Remembrance Day for Lost Species".
