LIVESTOCK: Land Workings
Date and time
From the land and to return there: a new work by Nigel Rolfe.
About this event
Curated and produced by Francis Fay, LIVESTOCK. Presented by Bealtaine Festival 2022 in partnership with Creative Ireland Longford as part of the Longford Live & Local programme and in association with the OPW.
Bealtaine Festival & LIVESTOCK invite you to join us for the premier of Nigel Rolfe’s new audio visual work made on the iconic site of Corlea Trackway during Spring 2022. The presentation which will also take place on this evocative site, points poetically to our deep connections with the land: past, present and future. How does the land hold us, shape us and define our horizon? As an artist within the frame of Bealtaine Festival Nigel’s work also raises questions about strength, resilience and vulnerability, in this age of uncertainty. Please join us for this striking experience of Nigel Rolfe’s work.
Audience members are invited to arrive at the venue from 7:30pm, with a short welcome by artist Nigel Rolfe at 7:55pm and the viewing of the work to take place thereafter in small groups. There will be refreshments available afterwards and the event is due to finish by 9:30pm.
Nigel Rolfe is recognised as a seminal figure in performance art nationally and internationally. His work spans live performance, photography, video and sound and has received international acclaim over five continents, including the former Eastern Bloc, North and South America and Asia. Nigel Rolfe employs video not as a tool of documentation but to investigate and test his own physical and psychological limits, using his body as a site for challenging his limitations and revealing vulnerability.
As Nigel describes his own work - "A bedrock of (my) practice has been the land itself, working with the landscape and the framing of history on geography but more so the socio-politics of how and why places are particular to themselves…’’
