Event description
This unique event explores The Artist’s Way from various perspectives giving insight into a crosssection of activities taking place at TBG+S

About this Event

Are you curious about what motivates and drives artists to create art? Have you ever wondered what goes on behind an artist’s studio door, or, what it takes to be an artist? This unique event explores the artist’s way from various perspectives, giving insights into a cross-section of activities taking place at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios..

Join us at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios for this stimulating day-long event which will explore these questions, while showcasing the many activities that take place in our building, including a solo exhibition of new paintings by Berlin-based Irish artist, Aileen Murphy, our Atrium project by studio artist Dragana Jurišić., and the wide variety of daily working activities undertaken by our twenty-eight studio artists. You will have the opportunity to meet with exhibiting artist Aileen Murphy, who will be in-conversation with internationally regarded painter, Lucy Stein, to discuss the commonalities and divergences in their work, and each artist’s approach to their respective painting practices. This conversation will also consider living, working and exhibiting in different international contexts. The day’s events will begin with a morning reception, where you will be welcomed by TBG+S staff and artists. Our Programme Curator, Michael Hill, will guide you through our current exhibitions followed by a unique insight into the artist’s way, how artists think and create, which will be explored through a panel discussion and visits to some of our artists’ working studio spaces. Finally, relax with a glass of wine or refreshment, to reflect on the day, while attending a reading by our 2019 Commissioned Writer, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, whose debut collection Bloodroot (Doire Press, 2017) has been praised for ‘its muscle and grit, vision and clarity.’

The Artist’s Way (seminar & event) offers an insightful opportunity to get a behind the scenes perspective of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios; experience and explore all areas of what we do, with an emphasis on our core focus, the artist. The title of this seminar is taken from Julia Cameron’s bestselling book, 'The Artist's Way: A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self'. It ultimately speaks to one point: everyone is an artist. 'The Artist's Way', enables readers to connect with their creativity by overcoming blocks such as fear, insecurity, self-doubt, and the internal critic.

This seminar will look at diverse artistic processes, habits, environments, intentions, and desires, a combination of which forges an individual’s unique artistic practice. Discussions will involve thinking about the motivations and experiences of artists, as well as the practicalities that facilitate the creative process. The seminar will also consider what is at stake when we allow ourselves to bring our creativity to the fore.

Come with friends and family, meet new people, get to know artists, and feel at home in the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios community.

This seminar is open to all and offers an opportunity to meet with artists and arts practitioners in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This is a special day in our calendar that opens up to the public all aspects of what we do. If you have ever wanted to know about what goes on at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, this event is not to be missed. Our staff will be here throughout the day to chat and welcome you.

Please note that tickets for the morning and afternoon events are sold separately, if you would like to attend the seminar for the full day, morning & afternoon, please book tickets to both sessions. FREE admission.
