Event description

Description

Mapping Your Data is for researchers, policy and decision-makers, staff in local development companies, NGOs, local authorities and consultants who want to gain experience in and knowledge of spatial data in Ireland. This is a day long workshop on GIS as a set of tools that helps you to match your data and other resources alongside data from public services. Specifically, our workshop will help you to carry out the basic functions of GIS including:

  • Data formats for use in maps

  • The principles of spatial analysis

  • Everyday data management for your organization

  • The production of quality thematic map content

The workshop uses the potential of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and related technologies to give you a visual picture of your services and users geographically. Each workshop will have a maximum of 14 participants so individual attention will be provided.

Using free and community-supported QGIS software, the workshop is designed for those with little or no GIS experience. Combined with the expertise available within the School of Geography, UCD, those enrolling will gain an insight into the use of spatial data for policy-making in Ireland.

Registration for this workshop requires that you bring your own OS X, linux or Windows-based laptop with QGIS installed to the workshop. Online guidance for this is provided on registration.
